Dr Ahmed Salama is a Consultant in Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia and Joint Clinical Lead of the Pain Management Service at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, one of the largest pain services in the West Midlands. He holds fellowships of both the Royal College of Anaesthetists and its Faculty of Pain Medicine, and has more than 20 years of experience in anaesthesia and pain management.
Dr. Salama sees patients with persistent pain who want a clear diagnosis, an honest explanation of the options and a treatment plan that fits their life. Treatment may include medication review, targeted image-guided injections, physiotherapy and psychological support, often combined.

All injections are performed under ultrasound or X-ray guidance for accuracy and safety:
Radiofrequency denervation for back, neck, sacroiliac joint, hip and knee (genicular nerve) pain.
Facet joint and medial branch blocks. Epidural and nerve root injections for sciatica.

At your first consultation Dr Salama will review your history, examine you and look at any previous scans. You’ll leave with a clear explanation of what is likely causing your pain and a personalised plan. Where an injection is appropriate, it can often be arranged quickly.
Training and expertise
Dr Salama trained in Egypt, and the West Midlands, completing advanced pain medicine training before his consultant appointment. He sees more than 1,000 patients a year in the NHS and teaches and supervises doctors in training. He presents nationally on pain medicine and won the Faculty of Pain Medicine trainee abstract prize in 2022.
