Shabi Ahmad is a graduate of the famous Dow Medical College in Pakistan. He completed his higher surgical training in urology with special interest in Endourology (stone diseases) in Newcastle.

He then completed his Royal College membership in 2008 and fellowship in urology in 2015. Mr Ahmad has completed advance Endourological training and fellowship in UK as well as high volume centres in South East Asia. He has also worked with Prof. Arthur Smith, who is based in the United States.

Mr Ahmad specialises in minimally invasive, ureteroscopy as well as percutaneous approach for renal and ureteric stones. He also sub-specialises in laser surgery for prostate and bladder cancer and stones.

He takes an active interest in dealing with female incontinence as well as neuro-stimulation. Surgeries for various genitalia and foreskin pathologies is performed as well as investigations and managements for all forms of urological malignancies and exotic infections.

Professional profile

As a consultant urological surgeon, I work privately as well as working in the NHS at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (Birmingham Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope Hospitals), since October 2013. I offer my patients a comprehensive service (including general, cancer, stones, and prostate / bladder problems).

I provide services for treating lower urinary tract symptoms due to enlarged prostate including TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate) and green light laser prostatectomy. I am also providing new minimally invasive services for prostatic obstruction symptoms including UroLift and Rezum steam therapy. I am developing a prevision template and MRI/USS fusion prostate biopsies. I regularly give talks to GPs and local support groups.

I have published widely and presented at numerous national and international meetings. I have been awarded the title of Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer from the University of Birmingham. I always put my patients first, listen to my patients and give them sufficient information to make an informed decision, using the latest evidence available.

I was born and raised in the West Midlands. I qualified from the University of Manchester (MB ChB Hons). I trained in the North West, London and completed my higher urological training on the West Midlands Higher Urological Specialist Training Rotation.

I am governance lead for quality and safety at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

In addition to my clinical work, I am involved in teaching medical students from the University of Manchester. Furthermore, I am involved in clinical examinations of medical students attached to Birmingham Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope Hospitals.

I am a senior consultant urological surgeon with over 30 years of urology experience. I graduated as a doctor in 1984 and completed my urology specialist training at John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospital, Oxford in 2000. I am a kidney stone specialist and offer laser treatment and ESWL shockwave for kidney stones. I provide a service for all patients with prostate enlargement, PSA and related prostate problems. I have a fast-track haematuria clinic (blood in the urine). I offer surgical treatment for adult circumcision and scrotal conditions like epididymal cyst, hydrocele and varicocele. I see all patients with urinary tract infections.

I have worked in the NHS for over 32 years and since retirement now work privately at Spire Little Aston Hospital and Sutton Medical Consulting. I passed my Fellowship FRCS in Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland in 1990. I completed a one year diploma in urology at the Institute of Urology University College London in 1993. I passed my MSC in urology at the Institute of Urology University College London 1996 to 1998. I cleared my FRCS urology specialist exam in 1999. I passed FEBU, Fellowship European Board of Urology in 2001. I have been a regional and national urology trainer accredited by the General Medical Council. I am an examiner for revision course FRCS urology.

The quality and provision of medical service depends upon a good teamwork. I have an excellent and experienced team consisting of interventional radiologists, anaesthetists and specialist nursing staff and support teams.

I have presented my work at British Association of Urological surgeons conference, European Urology and World Endourology meetings. My research work has been published in British journal of Urology and Journal of Endourology.
