Professional profile

I am a consultant general surgeon with a specialist interest in vascular surgery. I have a special interest in minimally invasive surgery (varicose veins, gallbladder and hernia repair). I am happy to see patients with the following problems:

General Surgery: Gallstones, hernia, skin lesions, carpal tunnel syndrome, benign bowel conditions, piles, pilonidal sinus, lymph nodes and spleen.

Vascular Surgery: Aneurysm, arterial problems in the legs, carotid disease (mini-stroke), varicose veins (radiofrequency ablation) and thread veins including Ultrasound guided Sclerotherapy

Endocrine Surgery: Thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery

I studied at Cambridge University (Emmanuel College) from 1982 to 1985 and his medical training at Oxford University (Magdalen College) from 1985 to 1988.

I moved back to Birmingham in 1988 and all of his subsequent training was based in the West Midlands. He taught anatomy at the University of Birmingham for a year. He then passed his FRCS examinations and entered research for 18 months at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The subject of his MD thesis was ‘Ischaemia-reperfusion injury in intermittent claudication’. This studied the possible harmful effect of walking in patients with arterial disease of their legs (causing a tightness in the calf after walking for a certain distance).

In 1998 I passed the final FRCS examination and was appointed Consultant Surgeon at Good Hope Hospital in October 1999, since qualifying I have developed a reputation for my surgical skill and excellent patient interaction, and hold my Private clinics in Sutton Coldfield and across the West Midlands.
