Professional Profile
I am a paediatric respiratory consultant specialising in conditions affecting children’s lungs and airways. My NHS practice is at the respiratory department of Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital where I manage children with a variety of chest and lung problems including chronic wheeze, toddler wheeze, severe asthma, cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis and rare lung diseases.
I am the lead for the difficult asthma service and respiratory research. I specialise in childhood asthma including severe asthma, wheeze in toddlers, prolong cough in children, recurrent chest infections, allergy and sleep disorders in children.
My respiratory training was at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London and Bristol Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital for Wales, Cardiff. I have completed research in children with severe asthma at Imperial College London and Royal Brompton Hospital leading to MD(Res) degree from Imperial College, London.
I have presented my asthma research work at many international and national conferences and published in a number of peer-reviewed journals. I was awarded the American thoracic society abstract scholarship in 2015 and I am the principal investigator for several children’s lung research projects.
I see patients referred by GPs and colleagues from other paediatric specialities. During the initial consultation which can last up to 45 min, the family have an opportunity to discuss their concerns, I perform a detailed clinical examination and formulate and discuss the management plan. The letter summarising the consultation will be sent to the referring doctor and a copy will be sent to the family.
Personal Profile
I am married with two young boys. As a family, we are keen on long walks, cycling and we try hard to balance work commitments and school with spending time together, music and sports. I love football and stand-up comedy.
