Professional Profile

Samir Massoud read medicine at Alexandria University Medical School, Egypt 1980-86. After moving to the UK in 1989, he trained in general surgical specialities, attaining the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1993.

Samir joined the Nottingham Higher Surgical Orthopaedic Training Scheme in 1995, attaining the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma & Orthopaedics in 1999.

Samir was appointed the Shoulder Surgery Fellow to the Reading Shoulder Unit in July 2000 for 1 year and trained in the Nottingham Shoulder and Elbow Unit for 6 months  following  that. He trained extensively in arthroscopic, reconstructive and joint replacement surgery and management of sports injuries of the knee and shoulder. He was appointed a consultant orthopaedic surgeon to the arthroscopy unit at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and University Hospital Birmingham in January 2003.

Samir is a founder member of the Birmingham Knee and Shoulder Clinic established in June 2004. He performs around 700 arthroscopic, reconstructive and joint replacement procedures of the shoulder and knee annually.

Samir’s NHS practice includes two full days of surgery, as well as a specialist shoulder clinic, an acute knee clinic and a fracture and sports injury clinic.
